Felipe Rivas San Martín
(Valdivia, Chile, 1982)
Artista visual, ensayista y activista sexo-disidente. Master en Artes Visuales de la Universidad de Chile. Doctor en Arte por la Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV), con el proyecto “Una genealogía queer de los algoritmos computacionales”, bajo la dirección de Juan Vicente Aliaga y como becario de la Agencia Nacional de Investigación y Desarrollo, ANID (2017-2021).
Su trabajo emerge de la intersección entre crítica queer, el archivo, la tecnología y decolonialidad. Desarrolla una producción in-disciplinaria relacionando pintura, dibujo, performance, video, escritura, activismo e investigación, y su obra forma parte de colecciones públicas y privadas como el Museo Reina Sofía (España); 21c Museum (USA); Fundación AMA (Chile); Colección del Ministerio de las Culturas de Chile; Museo de Arte Contemporáneo MAC de Chile; Colección Ca.Sa (Chile); MUNTREF (Argentina).
Entre 1998 y 1999 militó en MASALEF, una célula de las juventudes comunistas que reunía a estudiantes del Instituto Nacional de Chile. Fue co-fundador del Colectivo Universitario de Disidencia Sexual, CUDS (2002-2019), grupo latinoamericano de activismo, experimentación artística y reflexión crítica. Es autor del libro "Internet, mon amour: infecciones queer/cuir entre digital y material" (Écfrasis ediciones, 2019) y coautor del libro-objeto de ciencia ficción experimental "Sagrada Biblia Artificial" junto a Jaime San Martín Amador (Estudio San Martín, 2023).

Felipe Rivas San Martín

Visual artist, essayist, and sex-dissident activist. He has a Master's degree in Visual Arts from the University of Chile and a PhD in Art from the Polytechnic University of Valencia. His thesis project was titled A queer genealogy of computational algorithms, executed under the direction of Juan Vicente Aliaga and funded by the National Agency for Research and Development (ANID), of which Rivas was a fellow between 2017 and 2021.
His work emerges from the intersection between queer criticism, archives, technology, and decoloniality. He develops an un-disciplinary production through painting, drawing, performance, video, writing, activism, and research, and his work is part of public and private collections such as the Museo Reina Sofía (Spain), the 21c Museum (US), the AMA Foundation(Chile), the Collection of the Ministry of Cultures of Chile, the Museum of Contemporary Art (Chile), the Ca.Sa Collection (Chile) and MUNTREF (Argentina).
Between 1998 and 1999, Rivas was a member of MASALEF, a youth cell of Chile’s Communist Party that gathered students from the iconic Instituto Nacional, the country’s oldest public school. He was co-founder of the University Sexual Disidence Collective (2002-2019), also known as CUDS, a Latin American group that combined activism, artistic experimentation, and critical reflection. Rivas is also the author of the book Internet, mon amour: infecciones queer/cuir entre digital y material (Écfrasis ediciones, 2019) and co-author, along with Jaime San Martín Amador, of the experimental science fiction book-object Sacred Artificial Bible together (Estudio San Martín, 2023).
